There is allot of supporting information on additional maintenance required on a sumps that actually exceeds canister maintenance becasue a sump can accumulate allot of excess nitrates which requires more cleaning then just the top batten and blue bonded pads allot of sump advocates claim. Im going to give the system the benefit of the doubt but if this happens again its all going back on Zbay for action. So researching this phenomena I had to pull the entire box of bio balls out and take it to the bathtub for cleaning just like a canister except trailing water all the way since its all open baskets. At a little over 37cm, this powerful filter’s canister holds 4.8 litres of water. Whatever you are keeping in your aquarium (even turtles) there is an EHEIM Classic to suit your needs. For the first time I'm going to have to do a water change out of sequence and a week earlier then my other tanks because nitrates are running 4 times higher at 40 PPM when all my other tanks on canisters are running 10 PPM, absolutely no joke. EHEIM Classic External Canister Filters are available for aquariums sized up to 350 litres and have a pump output of 620 litres per hour. I have a sump and thought I was convinced it was easier to clean but I notice that en though its on my lightest stocked tank with the most filtration, nitrates have been steadily building and out paceing all my other tanks slowly every month. I do happen to own a few purely basket type filters but they are no match in performance to even the smallest in the circumference group IMHO. The best of circumference technology which is self evident and the best of convenient basket technology because unlike all other basket filters on the market it pushes water through the basket in the right direction from top to bottom with gravity, pinning media against the basket grate (just like a sump) rather then from the bottom up lifting the media off its grate and bypassing water like a flapper valve, and finally like a sump picks up water from the bottom rather then from the top where pump prime is much more susceptible to pressure loss and hydraulic lock. However if you want "works-in-a-drawer" fashion & convenience as well then the FX5 again is your choice as it supports the best of these two worlds. If you want the best in performance the design speaks for itself. There are Aquarium canisters that use this same proven technology like the FX5, Ocean Clear, Magnum 350 and 250 and becasue of this design Magnum and Ocean Clear are capable of using the same micron filter polishing technology used in water purification and hospital air handling systems. The concept is old and like all commercial canister filters force fluid or air to be filtered through circumference arrange media which is extremely efficient, effective, and long lasting. Its pretty hard to come from a place where something really works for you and do a change up, even to come up with a convincing reason. 25mm (1")Intake hose and 16mm (5/8") Output hose.Wow it sounds like you have had good luck and really enjoy what sumps have to offer.

The filter is easy to do maintenance on, although very heavy to move when full of water. I am very pleased with this filter so far. Įxcellent build quality and worth the initial expense.

Owners manual can be difficult to understand for 1st time user. Need to purchase Quick Disconnects separately. What is then the best way to connect the tubes to the PVC. I'm going to use the tubes that came with the filter and put both into 2-way tap connectors. This is a large filter - 22 1/2" H x 14" Diam. Hi, The standard fittings for my eheim 2260 do not fit too well on my tank so i'm thinking of DIYing a new PVC Intake and Spray Bar Outflow. Initial cost of filter and the need to purchase media as it is not included. Pump mounted on top of canister that can be rotated to allow pressure outlet on left, top or right discharge orientation. Large filter that can be filled with 18 liters of whatever media you want to use.
